NEED FOR CHANGE

It's no secret that Ploiesti has a stray dog overpopulation problem, with thousands of homeless animals roaming the streets. But it's important to realize that this is a human-created problem by all means. After all, exceptionally few Romanian dog owners sterilize their own pets. Very often, the owned animals get to breed, and then the resulting unwanted pups are simply abandoned in the street. A truly unfair situation caused by human irresponsibility and resulting in animal suffering.

Without continuous incoming waves of newly abandoned dogs and pups, the local stray animal population would most likely stabilize. After all, Ploiesti already held several large scale sterilization campaigns targeting precisely local strays. But what can be done when the stray population is constantly and vigorously supplemented with abandoned animals?

We here at the RSDP (Romanian Stray Dogs Ploiesti) want to change this. We aim to address the problem mainly through sterilizations and education. We have launched the Ploiesti Neutering Challenge that provides free sterilizations for stray, owned and shelter animals; as well as an Educational Program in schools with regard to humane animal treatment and responsible animal ownership.

We strive to provide the means to contain the local animal overpopulation problem in a humane, proactive, responsible and scientifically proven manner. We work towards the day when no pup would be born to be abandoned again.
